Hello,

I am new to setting puzzles. I am a land surveyor in California and I've always been interested in maths and maths puzzles. I have solved a few killer sudoku puzzles and found them fun to do. One day I thought to myself, I could create a killer sudoku puzzle, how hard can it be. I have created a couple of puzzles and i found setting more fun than solving. I am still learning how to set puzzles and would like an opinion on my second puzzle (I have only so far created two). Also if you can let me know the best way to post new puzzles and if this is a place to do that it would be much appreciated.

Welcome jbeck2862! Love you making puzzles and posting them here. Can you make them harder for us? We generally like them have a SudokuSolver score, available from http://www.rcbroughton.co.uk/sudoku/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5887#p5887 of around 1.50. Killer Sudoku No 2 gets a score of 0.85 which is beginner level. It only takes a minute to put the pdf version into SudokuSolver. I then exported the code which is below.
triple click code:
3x3::k:7704:7704:7704:7704:2561:2561:2561:2561:6402:7171:772:2565:2565:4102:4102:4615:6402:6402:7171:772:2565:2824:2824:4615:4615:6402:6402:7171:3081:3081:3081:6154:6154:6154:6154:6154:7171:1803:1803:4364:4364:4364:1293:1293:6670:5903:5903:5903:5903:5903:3856:3856:3856:6670:3857:3857:4114:4114:3347:3347:2324:3861:6670:3857:3857:4114:3350:3350:2324:2324:3861:6670:3857:5655:5655:5655:5655:5632:5632:5632:5632:

Hi Ed

Perhaps beginner to you or me I'd put it at about a DJape "Cool" which is a better measure for P&P puzzles.

Hi JBeck

However for posting here they need to be harder.

Also get JSudoku as it is useful for making cages larger - hence a harder puzzle.

I would suggest that for now you ignore Ed's 1.5 view as this is a full level assassin and it takes years to build up to creating good puzzles at this level. First target P&P level puzzles so an SS score about 0.9 to 1 - I will definitely solve them. Then build up to low assassin level at 1.25.

Cheers

Maurice

Welcome, jbeck! It's great that you figured out how to create a killer. Here, you'll find a core community of friendly and helpful fellow enthusiasts, and I look forward to seeing you here.

Here's a thread that you might find helpful in your setting. It is pinned and has great suggestions: http://www.rcbroughton.co.uk/sudoku/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=175

I've printed out your #2 and look forward to solving it this weekend!
